Using an audio means to create PR for a highly visual product? When I met Tom and Tracy Hazzard recently, they piqued my interested when they told me how they’ve used a podcast as the crux of their successful PR. The husband and wife co-founders of Hazz Design Consulting conceived of the idea for their podcast “WTFFF? 3D Printing Podcast” six months ago in April, 2015. (The “FFF” is a play on words that’s specific to 3D printing. It stands for Fused Filament Fabrication.)
Their hope was to establish themselves as recognized 3D printing experts and to build a strong audience and social media following. In addition to the podcast, they post videos, photos, reviews and links on their blog as a visual companion to the podcast (glad to hear it). The two had published 107 episodes as of our mid-October interview, and Tom reports the growing body of work is garnering 300 plays every day (in fact on one day of that week it achieved a total of 600 plays).
