3D Print Mother’s Day Gifts 2016

By Grace Sims

Mother’s Day is early this year, and there is still time to get mom a 3D print mother’s day gift or design one of your own. We’ve scoured the 3D design sites to find the best 3D printed gifts to show the moms in your life how much you appreciate and love her. Whether it be your mom, wife, sister, grandma, aunts, or a new mom at work perhaps, there is a 3D printed gift with her name on it (literally – you can add her name to any one of these designs as a quick project!)

3D Print Mother’s Day Gifts 2016 – Top WTFFF?! Picks

What is a 3D Print Mother’s Day without a personalized gift from your kids? If your children are still pretty young they can still incorporate 3D printing into their gift to mom. Etsy is a treasure trove of 3D printed cookie cutters and stencils, and I really like this idea from Cookie Cutter Kingdom where the 3D printed cookie cutter leaves an outline that the young (or older!) ones can color in the pattern with food colored icing once the cookie dough is baked.

If your child is even a little too young to color in a cookie, there is the option to turn your kids drawings and doodles into a 3D printed necklace or magnet. Honestly, I’m not sure about turning that many of the drawings my girls have done when they were very little into a piece of jewelry, but I like the fridge magnet option. Of course, I would wear anything my daughters made for me, although, you might have to get a little picky in selecting which doodle to immortalize in 3D print that would look good on a necklace.

I absolutely love the idea of this next 3D print Mother’s Day gift idea of recording each of your kids (or all the grandkids as a gift to grandma), saying “I love you” and turning that sound wave picture into a 3D printed sound wave. HTP Concepts really made this into a gift and took it one step further by placing the printed sound wave into a nice shadow box with each heart able to represent each different voice. It’s simple and a cool abstract concept that is a great snap shot into a moment of time of what each child sounded like on that particular day. Love it. They are also able to recreate any sound into a 3D printed wave form; music, heartbeats (would be amazing for a mom to be!), voicemails even. Contact them on their Etsy shop for more information.

Now, this next one is a little cheesy, but if any one of my kids took the time to design a 3D printed #1 Mom picture frame I would cherish it. I know the amount of time it takes to design any object to be 3D printed, and I would be proud that one of my children took the time to do it. Of course you can’t give mom this frame without her favorite picture of you and her in it (maybe some siblings too, but not if they didn’t help tackle CAD design!). This design is on Thingiverse by hrttele.

That just about wraps it up for the gifts from the little kiddos. Now we know all moms want flowers any day but they especially want them for Mother’s Day. You can 3D print your own flowers, or download a cool 3D printed vase off 3D Shook for some fresh ones from the florist.

Jewelry will never fail to wow mom and there is a great selection of 3D printed jewelry these days. There are some more traditional pieces like a beautiful scarf pin on iMateralise or the “You and Me” necklace by Lana Betty which I think would be great as a personalized gift to include hearts from each of your children. More modern pieces would include the Complex Cube Cuff bracelet also by Lana Betty or the Meshu Map Necklace. The Meshu Map necklace is a great gift idea for moms who might have their families living all over a particular state or country. What their program does is you input the cities where your loved ones live (or special places you have been) and it creates a type of connect the dots map image that they print out into a good piece of jewelry.

Some other great 3D print Mother’s Day gifts that mom can wear are some 3D printable shoes. Especially if she is willing to work with you to get her correct size. These might not be a last minute idea, but will be sure to wow mom once she sees all your hard work into creating a gift for her. Cults 3D has the Recreus Sandals designed by Ignacio. They remind me a bit of the “jellies” sandals from the 90’s, but they are on a retro comeback since I’ve seen them in some of the department stores around Southern California.  My Mini Factory has the Aphrodite Shoes by Michele B. to offer up. I think these look like real shoes you would find in a store. If you get these, let us know if they are comfortable because I have my doubts. All heels that high look a little painful to me.

The next item I would only suggest if your mom is pretty organized. I like the idea of this 3D printed Voronoi purse by ThingFuture, but the contents of my purse are so messy and tossed in it’d be embarrassing for the whole world to see that whirlwind of chaos. It’s still a beautifully designed bag that is a great gift for the right person. Or maybe it’s time I organize my purse…

Now we have a couple of 3D Print Mother’s Day options that require a little thought behind them. They are great designs, but need to be taken to the next level whether it’s by bundling the 3D printed part with another item or making sure that the design is printed in mom’s favorite color. I feel like an easy, go-to gift for moms or really anyone for that matter is to get them a cool phone case. The design on this Lotus Case by Genghis on Cults 3D is really cool, but mom would appreciate it more if it was done in her favorite color. Same goes for the Polyhedron Bowl on iMateralise by Edward Brown. The design is really unique and modern, something you would see in your average HomeGoods store, but if you could have it printed in the color scheme of your mom or grandmas kitchen it would really be a thoughtful gift.

If your mom loves to garden, or even just appreciates pretty things in nature the Hanging Flower Pots by serroff on Thingiverse would be a wonderful feature to add to a backyard patio. I think if you printed them in some fun colors for a rainbow effect or even an ombre effect, these would look spectacular. Be sure to give mom a few potted plants to add in the hanger so you and her can work together on creating this hanging garden.

As a fun project, you could really take this Earring/Jewelery Stand from Thingiverse designed by ReallyBigTeeth to the next level. Print it in a nice classy color, or have it sent off to be printed in a nice material like a metal. You could add her name or a special date along the side of it to make it extra special for her. don’t forget to gift her with a new pair of earrings as well if you get her the stand!

The last few suggestions we have for Mother’s Day this year can be incorporated into giving mom a whole day of relaxation. Give her some breakfast in bed with the Angle Pot steeping some of her favorite tea and decorate a muffin with the Spring Flower Stencil. She can relax in the tub to the light flickering from the Sound of Music Candle Lantern while her feet get massaged by the Kamala foot massager. Lots of great ideas you can use to pamper mom!
